CCHS GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH (OF THE YEAR) RANDY HERRING FIRED (COACHT.COM)
ARTICLE FROM COACHT.COM
Cumberland Co. Girls Basketball Coach Randy Herring was fired yesterday on 3/26 The administration informed him that they had decided to go in a different direction. No reasons were given for the dismissal. He has coached multiple sports at CCHS for 37 years. He had taken over the head coaching position at the start of the school year to help the administration out. CCHS was voted by the coaches and media to finish 5th place pre season. He took an average team at best and made them better. They showed consistent improvement and finished 3rd in District 7 AAA. He was voted co coach of the year by his colleagues. The Lady Jets finished 3rd in the district tournament and advanced to the region where they fell to Franklin Co. The Lady Jets won 18 games and had a winning record.
It seems that Coach Herring also brought to the attention of the administration numerous situations that were questionable or flat out wrong. Nothing was done on their part to solve the many problems. In doing so the administration seemed to lose respect for the girls team and the coaching staff. The results of that lack of respect has led to the dismissal of Coach Herring. It’s a major disgrace to the team, CCHS supporters and Coach Herring! Coach Herring is well respected in the community and can flat-out coach. CCHS is losing a quality coach and mentor. A true leader that stood for what’s right and wasn’t afraid to voice his concerns when things were wrong. It’s a sad day for CCHS athletics!
