KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Investigators are still looking for the identity of a man whose body was found near Walker Springs Road in 2023.
Previously, 6 News reported on August 5, 2023, a body was found in a wooded area in the 300 block of Walker Springs Road. At the time, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office stated that there were no apparent signs of foul play.
The body was taken to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center to be identified and for a cause of death to be determined, however, investigators are still working to learn who the man was.
In September 2024, a National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) sketch of what the man may have looked like was released. The agency’s profile of the man estimates he was around 35 to 45 years old when he died. He was estimated to have been around 5’7″ tall. However, because of the state of decomposition his remains were found in, investigators are not sure what color his eyes were.

According to a spokesperson with the Knox County Regional Forensic Center, the man’s remains have been compared to many potential missing persons cases, but so far, there have not been any matches.
On thing that may help identify the man is a tattoo on his left leg. A photo of the tattoo, which appears to be of a skull with rotting flesh, was released in NamUs’ profile.
In addition to the tattoo on his left leg, NamUs also states that the man had a cross on his upper right arm.
Knox County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation into the case. 6 News reached out to the sheriff’s office to learn if there have been any updates in the investigation, however, KCSO has not responded at the time this article was published.
The sheriff’s office shared previously that anyone with information that could help investigators identify the man was asked to contact Detective Jeremy McCord in KCSO’s Major Crimes Unit at 865-215-2243.
