DRUNK DRIVER TELLS CPD OFFICER “HOLD YOUR BREATH” AND HERE’S WHY

CROSSVILLE POLICE REPORT:

On 11/16/2024 I observed a vehicle traveling at an extreme rate of speed on Webb Ave towards Genesis Rd, so much so that I was driving approximately 45 miles an hour in a 30 mile per hour zone and I was struggling to catch up to the vehicle. Upon turning onto Genesis Road, I was able to catch up to the vehicle and observe it cross over the center line then drift all the way back to the white fog line before turning onto Village Ln, where I conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
I made contact with the driver, Sarah McMahon, who had watery eyes and was slurring her speech. I asked Sarah for her drivers license, which she was able to provide me, and her insurance. Instead of handing me her insurance, Sarah handed me her registration. Sarah told me that she did have a copy in her glove box, which she pulled out, but handed me her registration and put her insurance back in the glove box. At one point, Sarah stopped talking and covered her mouth as if she was going to throw up. Sarah never did throw up but took several moments to gather herself before she could speak again. I had Sarah exit the vehicle and moved her to a more level location across the road to conduct sobriety testing. When exiting the vehicle she had to hold onto her door while exiting. Sarah would walk, then stop walking, cover her mouth and again, act like she was about to throw up before walking again.
Sarah consented to a search of her person. While searching her, Sarah randomly stated, “Hold your breath.” I asked why I would need to do that, to which she replied, “I farted.”

Sarah was asked if she would consent to sobriety testing and she asked if she refused testing if I would let her call a ride and I told her no. Sarah was asked, again, if she would conduct sobriety testing, to which she eventually replied, “I love you thats why.” Finally, Sarah stated she did not want to conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.
Sarah was placed into custody and in the back of my patrol car. I transported Sarah to the Cumberland County Jail. I applied for a Blood Search Warrant once at the jail, which was granted. Sarah was transported to Cumberland Medical Center where 2 vials of whole blood were taken from Sarah’s person at 0128 hours. Sarah was provided with a copy of the search warrant at jail, Sarah was also cited with a summons for Failure to Maintain Lane. The blood was placed in evidence to be sent to TBI.
