CROSSVILLE MAN KNOWN TO SHOOT AT POLICE FLEES SCENE OF ACCIDENT AT GENESIS AND INTERSTATE DR.

On May 3, 2024 City units were dispatched to Genesis and Interstate Dr. in reference to a wreck with no injuries. While en route dispatch advised that the subject who had caused the accident was leaving the scene and heading inbound on Genesis Rd. towards Main St. They advised that it was a black Nissan Xterra with extensive front end damage. They also stated that there was an older male driving the vehicle.

A City unit that was at the intersection of Braun St. and Webb Ave. observed a vehicle matching the description dispatch had given out. The vehicle was coming through the intersection of Genesis Rd. and Webb Ave. The officer went to Main and Genesis due to the vehicle traveling that way and observed a black Nissan Xterra with major front end damage where the front bumper was in the passenger side tire stopped at the red light. He observed at that time that there was an older male subject driving the vehicle.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Genesis Rd. and Main St. He made contact with the driver of the vehicle and asked him why he left the scene of an accident. He stated that his leg was hurting and could not get his foot on the brake. He told the officer that he just wanted to go home. The male was identified as Mr. Chester Parks.

While speaking to Mr. Parks, the officer observed that the man had red watery eyes, slurred speech and could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Mr. Parks stated that he only drunk orange juice and that was why his mouth was orange. The officer told Mr. Parks that he could smell an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath to which Mr. Parks stated “fine I had four alcoholic beverages to drink”.

The officer then asked him if he had any weapons in the vehicle due to having prior knowledge that Mr. Parks carries a pistol in his pocket and that he would shoot the police. He stated that he had a handgun in the center console compartment in the vehicle. The officer then told him to step out of the vehicle due to the pistol being in there and to frisk him. The officer retrieved the handgun from the vehicle and discovered it was a 9mm silver double barrel derringer that had two rounds in it with the safety off.

The officer asked Mr. Parks for consent for him to do SFST’s to which he did not consent and the officer noted due to his state he would not have been able to perform SFST’s. Mr. Parks was then placed into double handcuffs and was double locked and placed into the back of the patrol vehicle. He was then transported to intake to begin the booking process.

Upon arrival at the Justice Center the officer requested EMS to come to intake due to Mr. Park’s inability to walk. Two vials of whole blood was drawn without incident. The officer gave him a copy of the search warrant in its entirety.

While doing a tow inventory of the vehicle it was noted there was 5 Smirnoff ice zesty orange screwdrivers that were 4.5% alc. vol. and most likely the real reason for the orange color in his mouth.

Mr. Parks was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, D.U.I, Failure to report accident and Poss. of a handgun while intoxicated. All evidence was placed into the Crossville Police Dept.
