On November 7, 2023 a while a City Officer was inside of Weigel’s and was notified by an employee that Mrs. Rebecka Lynn Rector wasn’t supposed to be inside of the store. The employee sated she was going to call her manager and see if she wanted her banned from the store.

Upon speaking with Mrs. Rector, the officer observed a marijuana odor to be coming from her.   The officer asked Mrs. Rector if she had any marijuana or hemp on her to which she stated no; but then stated she had a roach.

The officer then asked Mrs. Rector if she had anything else on her person and she stated “no you can’t search me that’s crazy” and started walking out of the store. The officer told Mrs. Rector that she was being detained at the time and gave her a lawful order to stop. Mrs. Rector didn’t comply and kept walking away at which time the officer placed Mrs. Rector’s left arm behind her back. Mrs. Rector started actively resisting in an attempt to get away from the officer. The officer gained control of Mrs. Rector’s right arm and placed her fully on the wall of the store with his body weight. A second officer arrived on scene and presented his department issued O/C spray to Mrs. Rector and stated that she would get sprayed if she kept resisting. Mrs. Rector was placed into custody without further incident and transported to the Cumberland County Sheriffs Office for booking.

Mrs. Rector was not charged for the roach but was charged with public intoxication for being a danger to herself and the general public and resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest, or search due to her intentionally attempting to prevent or obstruct her detainment. The drug paraphernalia was destroyed at the Crossville City Police Department.
