CROSSVILLE MAN ISSUED ADDITIONAL WARRANT AFTER EVADING CITY POLICE
On October 12, 2023 City police were patrolling the area of Obed St. when an officer identified a male on the side walk as Craig Alan Smith (DOB 09-11-87) whom they had prior knowledge of a local warrant for his arrest. An officer made contact with Mr. Smith and ran him through dispatch to confirm the warrant.
Once advised of the warrant Mr. Smith threw his backpack and jacket down and sprinted toward the woods behind Obed St. An officer pursued him through the woods and back out behind the apartments on Obed St. He continued to run along the wood line until the officer lost sight of him. The officer believed him to turn left back into the woods but officers could not relocate him.
The black backpack, the two jackets and the hat that Mr. Smith dropped were collected and placed into the back of the officer’s patrol car.
The officer then went to the Justice Center to write and sign another warrant on Mr. Smith for evading arrest.
At the Crossville police department the items he left behind were inventoried and placed into a black trash bag and stored until they can be returned to Mr. Smith.
