CROSSVILLE POLICE ABRUPTLY STOPPED FROM WATCHING FOOTAGE REGARDING DONATED SUITCASE WITH FIREARM IN IT
On September 22, 2023 at around 10:45 a.m. City Officers responded to Goodwill for a report of a firearm being located in a suitcase that had been donated. Upon arriving, officers made contact with the reporting employee who escorted the officers to the suitcase that the the firearm had been located in. Two officers collected the firearm from the suitcase and checked the serial number through dispatch to see if it was stolen. The firearm, a Sig Sauer P938 9mm handgun, returned with no stolen record. The officers were allowed to review video footage by the reporting employee and observed a charcoal gray Toyota Highlander (Newer Model) pull up to the donation bins. It was occupied at least by two occupants. The front seat passenger never exited but the driver was an older, white male with bald hair. The male subject was wearing glasses, a gray shirt with yellow writing, and blue jeans.
There appeared to be a front tag on the vehicle but due to the quality of the video it could not be determined if it was an out of state registration plate or just a decorative tag. As officers were watching video to see if they could identify the male subject, other Goodwill staff informed the reporting employee that the officers were not allowed to watch the video cameras and their Loss Prevention would be in contact with the officers. At that time, officers stopped watching the video cameras and cleared from the scene.
At the time of this report, officers have not been able to identify the owner of the firearm to try and contact them to return it. The firearm will be placed into evidence at the Crossville Police Department.
