A naked man running down the interstate in Knoxville yesterday shut down I-40.

Knoxville police said the man was walking down the interstate just before 2 pm between James White Parkway and 5th Avenue. An officer spotted him and stopped to talk to him.

The office said the man started running and throwing drugs out of his pockets, then stripped off his clothes and spit at and fought with officers. He was also running in and out of traffic.

An officer deployed a Taser in an attempt to bring the man under control. Investigators weren’t sure if the man was having a mental issue or if he was under the influence of drugs.

Two lanes of I-40 were shut down as officers took the man into custody so they could transport him to a hospital for observation. He was also treated for cuts he received during the incident.
