CROSSVILLE MAN FIRES SHOT INTO VEHICLE AND POINTS GUN AT MOTORIST’S HEAD DURING FIT OF ROAD RAGE

On June 26, 2023 at approximately 6:00 p.m., city units were dispatched to Northside Dr. in reference to shots being fired from a motorcyclist in a road rage incident. Upon arrival one officer made contact with the victim, and another made contact with Rodney Jarrett, the motorcyclist.

The victim stated that both he and Mr. Jarrett are strangers to one another. They were both traveling on Miller Ave when he observed the Harley Davidson driving recklessly weaving in and out of traffic. The victim then stated that he was traveling with his window down when they had reached the red light on Northside Dr. and Hwy 70 North. He asked the motorcyclist, Mr. Jarrett, “why are you driving like a stupid idiot?”. He then made a right to travel east on Northside Dr. at which point Mr. Jarrett then also made a right turn and started to travel side by side with him in the turning lane. The victim then pulled over on the shoulder off the roadway, where Mr. Jarrett also pulled over to the driver side of the vehicle approximately two feet from the driver door. The victim stated he then opened the door to confront Mr. Jarrett when Mr. Jarrett suddenly brandished a 9mm handgun and fired one round into the B pillar post of the driver door.  Mr. Jarrett then dropped the motorcycle onto the roadway while trying to step off of it. The victim then stepped toward Mr. Jarrett as he was getting back up from dropping the motorcycle when Mr. Jarrett pointed the handgun towards his head, between his eyes. He then backtracked from his position and Mr. Jarrett dropped the magazine from the firearm, racked the round to clear the chamber, and then threw the firearm in the field towards the fence area. The victim then called 911. After this conversation the officer observed the impact of the bullet in the B pillar post of the vehicle where the round was fired into the vehicle.

When Mr. Jarrett was questioned he stated the reason he drew and fired his firearm was fear of being hurt. He threw the firearm towards the fence area so that neither of them could make contact with the firearm during the altercation.

Detectives obtained photographs of the scene and evidence. All photographs were logged into digital evidence at the Crossville Police Department. The spent 9mm ammo round, racked 9mm ammo round, Smith & Wesson Magazine with the six 9 ammo rounds, and the 9mm Smith & Wesson MP Shield were seized and later logged into evidence at the Crossville Police Department.

Mr. Jarrett was taken into custody during the investigation and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center by an officer who was granted a warrant for Aggravated Assault and Reckless Endangerment by a Judicial Commissioner.
