EVACUATION IN CAMPBELL COUNTY DUE TO HAZARDOUS TRUCK WRECK
One person was killed and three others were injured in the crash that shut down I-75 in Campbell County Wednesday afternoon.
According to THP Lt. Don Boshears, there was an explosion after the two trucks collided. One of them was carrying batteries, the other an “oxidizing material.”
There were concerns when emergency responders first arrived, because one of the trucks had a placard reading “radioactive”, but authorities have determined that is not the case.
The victims have not been identified, but the person who died was driving one of the tractor trailers.
It could take two to three hours to clean up the crash. There’s no word on when the interstate will reopen.
Authorities are now evacuating people within a half mile of the crash scene because of the material involved in the crash. THP said that they are following protocol set by the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) in dealing with hazardous material spills.
