Five Cumbeland County Fire trucks, ten County firemen, seven Forestry Division men, three Forestry dozers, Sheriff’s Department, EMA and Rescue Squad are on the scene of a large woods fire off Peavine Firetower Road near in the northern part of the county.

Officials suspect the fire was started by powerlines shorting out due to very high winds today. There have been many reports today of fires and power outages after 40 to 60 mile per hour wind gusts.  Currently, at 6:40pm, there are 1,016 VEC customers without power in the County.
