CROSSVILLE MAN ATTEMPTS TO FIGHT OFFICER WITH CLENCHED FISTS IN FIGHT STANCE BUT THEN THIS HAPPENS

On December 5th, 2022 at approximately 9:01 p.m. hours an Officer was dispatched to the area of Elite Exxon on West Ave. in reference to an intoxicated male stumbling around the area of their gas pumps. Per dispatch, the male had been at Weigel’s yelling at customers before running out of their store and almost falling in the parking lot as he ran in the direction of the Exxon. When the officer arrived on scene he was waved down by an employee of Exxon and advised that an intoxicated male was inside their store by the dining tables. The officer located a male standing by the tables recognized as Casey Hamby from previous encounters.

When Mr. Hamby saw the officer he began aggressively clenching his fists and standing in a fighting stance but appeared to have difficulty maintaining his balance and swayed in place to the point that the officer instructed him to hold onto the table. When Mr. Hamby was holding onto the table, the officer began patting him down for weapons at which point Mr. Hamby lost his balance and sat down on the table’s bench. Due to Mr. Hamby’s aggressive demeanor, the officer waited for another officer to arrive before attempting to place him into custody.

While the officer was speaking with him, he began crying and punched himself in the head with his right fist. The officer advised him to stop hitting himself and grabbed his wrist to prevent him from continuing to strike himself. When the second officer arrived on scene, the first officer advised him to be ready as this would probably turn into a fight. At these words, Mr. Hamby began yelling and tried to turn to towards both officers with his fists clenched again.

Both officers navigated Mr. Hamby face down onto the table and with the assistance of a third officer he was wrangled into handcuffs. After escorting Mr. Hamby to a patrol vehicle, he began slamming his head into the side of the vehicle while officers finished searching him. He was then placed into the vehicle and transported to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. At the request of store management, Mr. Hamby was banned from returning to the store. He was charged with Public Intoxication due to his intoxicated state, which caused him to be a danger to himself and a nuisance to the business/public from his aggressive behavior.
