TENNESSEE SENATORS SAY WE NEED TO DRILL MORE OIL, “BIDEN IS FINANCING PUTIN’S WAR”
Lawmakers are sounding off after President Joe Biden delivered his first State of the Union address Tuesday night.
His speech to Congress began with Russia’s attack on Ukraine—where he promised to use every tool at his disposal to push Putin back. Biden also announced the U.S. led an effort to release 60 million barrels of oil to combat the rise in oil costs due to sanction.
Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) responded in part by writing, “We don’t need oil from the strategic petroleum reserve, we need to DRILL HERE IN THE UNITED STATES! #SOTU”
Before Biden’s address, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) spoke in an interview with FOX 17 News—where she accused the president of financing the war on Ukraine using Russian profits on oil.
“Russia is financing this war on Ukraine with the profits they’re making off of selling oil and gas to the United States,” Sen. Blackburn said. “We should go back to exporting oil. We should cut that off.”
Linda Schacht, of Lipscomb University, called Tuesday night’s speech the “most important” State of the Union heard from a president in decades.
“It is the most important State of the Union probably in the last 50 years because of who is watching it,” Schacht said. “The world is watching, Putin is watching, our European allies are watching, and most importantly, the American people are watching.”
