COUNCIL VOTES TO TAKE CAR SHOW OFF MAIN, PUT BEHIND COURTHOUSE
In 3-1 vote the Crossville City Council has voted to move the monthly Crossville Cruisers car show off Main Street starting next year. The car show is held on the 4th Saturday between the months of April and October. The Council voted to move the car show, featuring antique and vintage automobiles, behind the Courthouse and in front of the amphitheater.

Yes we do.
Those who don’t like know how to bypass it. Anything to draw folks downtown is good!

It doesn’t draw folks downtown except a bunch of bored ass retirees who only go in the business to piss all over the bathroom floors and not buy anything. It only dissuades people to avoid the area thus hurting the businesses there.
Go have your car show at the fair grounds and let businesses setup their tents and such and sell stuff to the attendees. Win-Win for all involved. Car show enthusiasts have a nice open place to go enjoy antique vehicles with adequate parking, local businesses get to make money from folks without having their brick & mortar stores virtually inaccessible by non-event-attendees, and Main Street doesn’t get any more congested than it already is.
This isn’t Mayberry in the 50s…

The parking on Main St. really sucks to begin with and add in congestion and full on blockages due to whatever event may be going on, it’s a recipe to make people avoid the area more than is the norm.
The best solution would be to utilize the fairgrounds and have all the local shops and vendors setup booths like they do at the county fair and give them a chance to make bank.
Hosting crap on Main St. is a bottle neck and dissuades people from going to that part of down but hosting at the fair grounds would a nice area to bring people together, not to mention actual adequate parking.

If no car show, then there should be nothing downtown.

Because the parking leaves a lot to be desired. Abuelas made the right move relocating to the otherwise vacant mall.

Respectfully I disagree.
My family and I tend to avoid shopping in that area of town because of the lack of parking most days. For example, Abuelas Cuban Cafe has gotten more business from my family since it moved to the mall than when it was there on main street. The food is amazing but it wasn’t worth the headache of trying to find parking and we would certainly avoid that part of town if there was some special event going on.
I don’t think anyone is saying that the car show / cruise thing shouldn’t happen, I think the argument was made and justified that it shouldn’t impede traffic or obstruct otherwise normal activity.
Holding such an event at the fair grounds would make far more sense. Parking is plentiful and it would give local vendors a chance to setup their canopies and rake in some extra money. Personally speaking, I’d be more willing to go to something like that than something on Main St. If enough people go to the event at the fair grounds, it’s a win-win. Otherwise it would demonstrate lack of interest and justify the decision to get it off of Main St.

If you don’t want to go on main street at that event then stay home or go around

If you were capable of reading worth a damn, you would realize that the guy or gal above in fact does avoid that part of town during events which aligns with the argument that it in fact hurts businesses in that area instead of drawing more traffic unless you count a bunch of boomers going in to piss all over their bathrooms as drawing business.

No events should be allowed that shut down Main streets or state highways. We have community centers, parks, and fairgrounds that go unused. Off Main Street would be an improvement. At least the businesses would still get some benefit. What’s going to happen with the overflow when the designated areas fill up? It’s funny that the town banned cruising by the kids year’s ago, but now the old farts will be doing the same thing. Can we get rid of the homeless enabling centers next? Or maybe move them to Fairfield Glade?

I think the best idea is to get a all new council ,the good ole boy system council isn’t working anymore. Let’s all go to the old mall were there is plenty of parking and they appreciate us . Why do they close Main Street for other crap ?
