POLICE REPORT: WEDNESDAY NIGHT SHOOTING AT VILLAGE INN

Below is the Crossville Police report of record on the shooting of a man Wednesday evening:

On 08/25/2021 at approximately 1817 hours, I was dispatched to 61 Burnett St. in reference to a male having been shot. When I arrived on the scene, I observed Manuel Garcia and Conrado Ortega standing in front of Mr. Ortega’s Chevy TrailBlazer. Mr. Garcia was holding the left side of his lower abdomen and had blood on his shirt In that area. Mr. Garcia did not speak English but Mr. Ortega was able to translate for him. He advised that Mr. Garcia had been seated at the fence line near the trees between the backside of the Village Inn and Flynn’s Signs talking on his cellphone when a male had approached him. He stated that Mr. Garcia told him that the male had punched him and shot him, then asked him to call an ambulance. Both Mr. Garcia and Mr. Ortega advised that they had not seen the male and could not describe the shooter. I was not able to observe any blood in the area of the fence and officers were unable to find any shell casing. Mr. Ortega allowed officers to check inside his vehicle and his apartment, no blood was located in either location.
I talked to multiple residences of the Village Inn who were sitting outside during the incident, they advised me that they had not seen anything or heard any gunshots. One of them advised that she had seen a white female wearing a bright color shirt, dark curly hair pulled up, about 5’5″ and 200 lbs running through the breezeway towards N. Main St. yelling that a Mexican had shot a Mexican. I was unable to locate this female and no one else that I spoke to stated that they had seen her. I spoke with dispatch by phone and they advised me that only Mr. Ortega had called in and that they had not received any calls from anyone else in reference to hearing a gunshot.
Security footage from City Hall showed a male wearing a light-colored shirt and jeans in the area of Flynn’s sign walking towards Webb Ave. around 1618 hours. LT. deployed his K9 in the area. A green cloth bandana was located at 456 N. Main St. (the old York Law Office) in the corner of the drive-through and the building. This bandana was entered into evidence.
Mr. Garcia was transported by EMS to the helipad and flown to UT by LifeStar 2.
