The North Carolina Department of Transportation will shut down a 20-mile section of the interstate Thursday between Cocke County and Haywood County, North Carolina.

It’s closing the road to clear out any rocks that could fall along the road.

Drivers from Knoxville are being advised to take I-81 north to I-26 east as a detour.

The road should reopen by Thursday night.
