PRIVATE AIRPLANE PUTS OUT SMOKE TRAIL OVER CROSSVILLE AIRPORT PROMPTING DOZENS OF 911 CALLS
911 calls by the dozen flooded Central Dispatch in Crossville Friday with concerned callers reporting an air plane was on fire flying near the airport. Several units of the Crossville Fire Department and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the airport anticipating the possible crash landing of a plane in distress. The callers simple stated the plane was smoking…alot while in the air. After the smoke cleared, it turned out to be only a local aviator taking his vintage military plane for a spin and putting on a smoke show similar to ‘sky writer’ planes. Once landed, the pilot said he wondered what was up with all the fire trucks at the airport below, thinking something must be on fire. He had no idea the fire engines were there for him. Airport Manager Chris Bennett told us all ended well and no one was in harms way.
