NATION: MOTHER JUMPS FROM BURNING BUILDING WITH CHILD IN ARMS, BOTH SURVIVE

1A woman is waiting to see if surgery will help her walk again after she jumped out of a third-story window in Massachusetts to save her son.

According to ABC News, a fire tore through Christina Simoes’ apartment complex in Haverhill and left the young mother and her 18-month old son trapped.

Simoes suffered serious injuries, including broken vertebrae, after she jumped with her son, Cameron, in her arms.

“I just knew we were either going to die or we were going to get out of there,” Simoes told ABC News. “Once I got to the window and looked down and I knew what I had to do.”

Even after the fall, Simoes still had to escape from falling debris trying to get her son out of danger.

“I told him to run,” Simoes recalled. She told ABC News affiliate WCVB-TVin Boston that she had to army crawl her way to safety.

Cameron only sustained minor injuries, and after a six-hour surgery, Simoes says it’s still unclear if she will be able to walk again.

“All the pain, all of this that I’m going to go through is worth it to see him run around and play,” said Simoes. “We lost everything but that doesn’t matter to me because I have all that matters.”

Late Saturday night, family members said they believed they saw her toes wiggle.
