A report released Tuesday morning by the United States Geological Survey reveals a 2.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded in White County.

According to the USGS, the earthquake happened around 10:45 a.m. Monday, about six miles west of Sparta. An automated report containing the information was released exactly 24 hours later, but USGS scientists said they were unsure of the reason for the “unusual” delay.

The earthquake, with a depth of about three miles, happened hours before a 3.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Campbell County near the Kentucky line.
