UPDATE: CHARGES PENDING FOR DRIVER WHO RAN INTO DEPUTY SCOTT ILES, MORE INFO RELEASED

A Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office school resource officer was airlifted to a hospital Tuesday afternoon after he was hit by a car.

A preliminary incident description, provided by THP, reports a vehicle struck Deputy Scott Iles, he hit the windshield, and landed 50 feet in front of the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office says Deputy Scott Iles was directing traffic at North Cumberland Elementary School when he was hit from behind.

THP reports the driver is Patrick Henry Hicks III, 87, from Monterey, Tenn. At this time, THP reports charges are pending.

According to the preliminary description, the vehicle was traveling south on Highway 127N.

The sheriff’s office says the deputy was alert and talking before being taken to UT Medical Center by helicopter for precautionary reasons. Reports indicate Deputy Iles suffered head injuries and possible a cracked sternum.
