CROSSVILLE WOMAN STABBED TO DEATH IN CHATTANOOGA SUNDAY NIGHT

A 30 year old Crossville native has been stabbed to death in Chattanooga

A 57-year-old man has been charged with criminal homicide and tampering with evidence in connection to the stabbing death of Ashley Cates.

Cates was found suffering from several apparent lacerations or stab wounds in her home on the 1500 block of Bailey Avenue shortly before 9 p.m.

Investigators collected evidence at the scene which led them to believe Tyrone Murphy was the suspect. He was taken into custody and booked into the Hamilton County jail.  Sources tell CNF that Ashley had just moved into the apartment.  The suspect apparently lived next door and Ashley did not know him.  Ashley is a graduate of CCHS in Crossville.

Investigators are still following all leads and anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 423-698-2525.
