UPDATE: SEARCH FOR POSSIBLE SHOOTER IN THE AREA DIALED BACK

As most residents of eastern Cumberland County there has been quite a commotion since the 4:30 shooting at a rest area off I-40 east bound.  Helicopters have been flying over the area in search of a possible suspect in the shooting along with deputies on the ground searching the area. Sheriff Cox had told news outlets the witness accounts of the shooting have been confusing and there may not be a suspect.  However, just in case there was a shooter on the loose, local law and THP have been searching the area.  CNF news has learned that indeed, upon further investigation, there may not be another person involved in the shooting.  The search for another person has been dialed back by authorities at this hour which is an indication there may be no other person involved.  CNF is awaiting word from Sheriff Cox that the search has been called off entirely.  According to the THP Facebook page and other sources, there was a description of another person who may have been involved:

We are currently working a shooting in Cumberland County at the 324 Rest Area. A possible shooter may still be at large. A description was given to troopers of an approximately 6ft white male, bald and in a dark colored shirt. Vehicle description unknown. Interstate 40 east is being shut down to land Lifeforce to fly out one subject that has been shot. We are unsure of any other patients at this time. TDOT has been notified to assist with the interstate. THP’s CID and aviation are on scene. This is an active investigation.
