IN THIS EPISODE: SOUZA FIGHTS BACK WHEN KERLEY DEMANDS APOLOGY, MAYOR CALLS TIME-OUT

There are almost no words to describe the fiasco that flared up at the end of the Crossville City Council meeting last night.  So we decided to just let you listen to the thirty-minutes of flame-throwing between the council members – mostly aimed at Councilmember Pete Souza.  The meeting seemed to be going well with several resolutions passed and a good report from the Sheriff and Police Chief on the state of law-enforcement in the community.  Granted, Mayor Mayberry made an attempt at stopping what was surely going to be a train wreck saying “this isn’t a trial” and “There’s a lot of positive things happening in the community”.  However, it played out almost like a trial with what started as a motion from Councilmember Jesse Kerley calling for an apology from Councilmember Pete Souza for inappropriate speech and actions in the past. That’s when things heated up.  And, as you will hear, “point of order” has become the new catch phrase of the Council – used by various Councilmembers about 30 times or more during the discussion.  And just so you can follow along well, “Point of Order” is simply calling “fowl” if someone thinks the rules of procedure is being violated by the speaker.   As one attendee told us “this would be funny if it wasn’t so sad that this is how our governing body conducts itself”.  Below is the audio from the heated exchanges with Souza, after the half-hour’s worth of diatribes, simply saying “The request is denied” – to the apology request.
