5TH RAPE REPORTED ON UT CAMPUS, POLICE SAY ‘FIGHT BACK’

A UT student said she was raped inside her dorm room by a man she didn’t know. Now her neighbors are concerned about how vulnerable they are. Silence from UT Police about this case, but campus leaders tell local 8 News Anchor Lauren Davis students should learn self defense. This is the fifth reported rape on campus since last fall.

Denver Cusick lives in Morrill Hall. Her roommate texted her to let her know there was a rape in their building. Cusick said, “I said, ‘oh my gosh,’ and she said, ‘yeah, we have to start locking our doors.'”

UT Police were at Morrill Hall again Monday morning after a female student reported an unknown male raped her in her dorm room early Saturday morning. Denver said Morrill hall has a key card entrance, but once you’re inside you can roam the entire building. Cusick said, “It’s scary. We live here, and it’s not so hard for people to get it. It could happen to anyone.” UT Police wouldn’t comment further about the rape, only to offer up information on self defense classes for women.  FULL STORY HERE
