29,544 TENNESSEAN’S ARRESTED FOR DUI IN 2014

download (5)A Tennessee Bureau of Investigation report says there were more Tennessee residents charged with driving under the influence in 2014 than 2013.

The report, which must be submitted to lawmakers by Feb. 1, says law enforcement agencies arrested 29,544 around the state for the offense in 2014. That’s 639 more people arrested for DUI than in the previous year.

While the law enforcement agencies are touting the numbers as progress in getting drunk drivers off the road, some people are simply appalled by the sheer number of people who are driving drunk or high on drugs. Considering the total arrests made do not include the ones who were not caught, some lawmakers are wondering if new legislation should be passed to try to cut the number down.
