22 ACRE WILD FIRE RAGING NEAR HARRIMAN

HARRIMAN, Tenn. (WVLT) – Crews are working to put out a wildfire that broke out on Edwards Road between Sugar Grove and Mays Valley in Harriman during what is being called a severe drought.

Roane County 911 first received a call about the fire, placing it behind the Pine Ridge Baptist Church Sunday evening. The Roane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies responded, then brought in the Tennessee Division of Forestry. As of Sunday night, crews were working to put lines around the fire.

While it is located near some homes, Roane County Emergency Services Director Tim Suter said none are in danger as of Monday morning.

The State Forestry Division has taken control of the scene,” Suter said. “There are homes in the area but Forestry is confident no structures are in danger.”

As far as containment, Nathan Waters with the Tennessee Division of Forestry said Monday morning that crews had worked overnight and that the fire was 60% contained.
