Several people in Cumberland County have gotten calls from someone claiming to be with Publisher’s Clearing House and telling the resident that they have won $2 million and a new Cadillac. This is a scam. The calls originate from an 876 area code which is a Jamaica telephone number. In some cases, people have been told that the Prize Patrol will be coming to their house and they need to be ready to pay the taxes on their winnings. This call can sound very convincing since the caller may not initially ask for personal information. However, this is a scam and you should never give out any personal information to someone you do not know, even if you have entered a contest. Also, do not attempt to call this number back because you will be billed for international phone charges.
