YOUR WATER BILL JUST WENT UP, CITY COUNCIL PASSED 7% WATER RATE INCREASE

The Crossville City Council voted to raise the water rate for city and county customers by seven percent in their meeting Tuesday night. Councilman Shanks made a motion for the rate increase to just affect city customers but not county customers which already pay more for water than city customers.  That motion didn’t get a second.  Immediately Crossville Mayor R. J. Crawford made a motion to raise the water rates seven percent across the board for city and county users.

That motion passed with only one no vote from Councilman Mike Turner.  The water revenue is designed to be separate from the general fund meaning all the revenue from the water department stays in the water department to pay for expenses. The rate increase includes other water utilities in the county that the city sells water to.  Those other utilities may or may not pass the increase onto their customers. The Council also passed a resolution to borrow some three million dollars for a new fire hall.
