The candidates who will be running the Cumberland County May 3rd Primary Election have been finalized after the noon deadline for filing today.  One aspect of the primary that is new this year is the races for district school board seats.  In the past those seats were non-partisan.  Last year the Tennessee General Assembly passed a resolution allowing local county parties to call for a primary if they wished for district school board seats that are up for election.  In this case those are districts 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 district seats. In Cumberland County, the Republican Party was first to call for a primary followed by the Democratic Party a couple of weeks later. In this case those are districts 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 district seats.  Below is the official list of qualified candidates as released by the Cumberland County Election Commission for the two Party’s Primary.  Then following we list the races with Independent candidates who do not run in the County Primary but will be on the August 4th General Election ballot. All Cumberland County Commission Districts are also up for election but the Commission is a non-partisan race and those elections will be in August 4th General Election (Rotate phone to horizontal for easier viewing of list)
