COUNTY GOES AFTER SPIRIT BROADBAND FOR UNPAID FRANCHISE FEES

Graphic1Cumberland County Commissioners have given the go-ahead to the County Mayor and County Attorney to begin taking steps to collect over $100,000 in past due franchise fees from Spirit Broadband cable company.  According to reports, the unpaid fees date back over several years.  The franchise fees allow the cable company to operate their business within the county.  Aside from legal action to collect the fees, not much more can be done that would not disrupt cable and internet for the Spirit subscribers. On top of past due fee’s,  there have been several complaints recently to the county about Spirit Broadband cable’s quality of service including loss of channels and internet service outages.
