Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified 22-year-old Jessica Case from Knoxville and Samuel Foster from Kingston as the two victims who were killed in a head-on wreck Saturday on eastbound I-40 in Cumberland County.

Turns out that Jessica Case is a mother that had been reported missing over the weekend in Knoxville.

THP said the SUV driven by Foster had been traveling on the wrong side of the interstate before it collided with the semi-truck. Authorities were not able to identify either of the victims until yesterday evening.

The Knoxville Police Department said Case had been reported missing by her family Monday after she hadn’t returned home to her children in Knoxville last Friday. KPD said the children were placed in the care of another family member.

According to KPD, investigators were told Case was believed to have left to meet her boyfriend, but it is uncertain what relation Foster had with Case.

THP said it requested blood tests on both Case and Foster to determine if they were under the influence at the time of the crash. Case tested positive for both unspecified drugs and alcohol use, and Foster tested negative according to the updated THP incident report.

KPD said Case was reported to have been driving a Silver 2005 Hyundai Sante Fe when she went missing. The incident report identified the vehicle she was a passenger in was a 2015 Mazda CX9, which THP Lieutenant Jimmy Neal later confirmed had been reported stolen out of Knoxville.

The driver of the semi-truck was not seriously hurt, according to THP.
