USATODAY: COULD TENNESSEE’S LOSS TO S.C BE THE END FOR BUTCH JONES

This just might have been the final straw for Butch Jones at Tennessee.

As if losing to South Carolina 15-9 wasn’t enough, it was another ugly performance for a Volunteers team that is lucky to be 3-3 at this point in the season.

They led 9-3 at halftime but played ultra conservatively after that. Their first four drives of the second half went for 5, 17, 0 and -16 yards. To be fair, Jarrett Guarantano was making his first start, but Jones and his staff didn’t trust him to make any plays.

The only time the Volunteers’ offense showed much life was on the final drive, trailing by six, when they moved the ball to the 2 and had three chances to score with 10 seconds remaining, but couldn’t get it done.

“He’s got a tough road,” former Auburn coach and ESPN analyst Tommy Tuberville, said  on the broadcast about Jones just after the game ended. “Next week is Alabama, and we all know what that does. He’s lost three in a row. Three SEC games. People are really, really upset about what’s going on, especially the 41-0 loss to Georgia. That’s just … that’s hard to swallow.”

Tennessee has now gone 10 quarters without scoring a touchdown.  FULL STORY HERE
