It was a tragic end to the search for a 5-year-old boy who went missing Wednesday.

Anderson County deputies say Odin Elwood Fitton was found in a pond.

Divers recovered the body Wednesday night after crews from multiple agencies searched for the young boy for nine hours.

“It’s a sad situation. It’s very disheartening for us to have this happen,” said Mark Lucas with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

He was last seen at his home on Brushy Valley Road in the Heiskell community around 12:30 p.m.

Deputies would not say who was in charge of watching Fitton at the time he went missing.

A chaplain was called to the scene and is with the family.
