TORNADO DEVELOPS QUICKLY WITH NO WARNING, DAMAGE IN PLEASANT HILL

Sirens screamed this afternoon as emergency responders rushed to the Pleasant Hill community when calls came in that a tornado had touched down in the area of Pleasant Hill School. Students were taken in quickly to the interior of the school as the high winds burst glass on nearby school busses and some buildings.  There had been a “significant weather” advisory earlier issued by the National Weather Service but no ‘Tornado Watches or Warnings”.   The storm cell was relatively small that traveled from the southwestern part of Cumberland County toward the northeast.  A tornado was eventually issued by the National Weather Service for the northern part of Cumberland County reportedly after an officer called to report a funnel cloud.  There was some damage at Pleasant Hill School but no reports of injuries.  News outlets, such as CNF, are reporting the weather incident as a possible tornado until the National Weather Service releases a formal determination that it was indeed a tornado.  For most, however, there isn’t much doubt.  Here is one photo of what appears to be a funnel-shaped cloud dropping from a larger cloud looking toward the north from Crossville after the storm hit Pleasant Hill.
