A 16-year-old has been arrested after allegedly bringing a gun onto the campus of Tennessee Tech University on Thursday morning.

According to a release from the university, someone called police and reported seeing a man with a handgun walking through the parking area for the Whitson-Hester School of Nursing just before 9 a.m.

The teen was taken into custody by campus police between Fifth and Sixth streets as he walked toward Peachtree Avenue.

Officials said the teen does not have any affiliation with the university.

Police said he did not resist and handed over the gun to officers.

Campus police, the Cookeville Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the call.
