SUMMER SPLASH PAD MAY BE OPENED AS WINTER ICE SKATING PAD IF DELAYS CONTINUE

It’s the middle of July and hot.  Parents had looked forward to taking the kids to the new Garrison Park Splash Pad on fourth street in Crossville this summer.  Its been almost two years in the making from City studies to Council approval to construction.  The City had hoped the water fun would being much sooner than now but there has been delay after delay in getting the pad ready.  Inspectors have found numerous faults with the Splash pad that must be fixed before opening to the public.

Today was to have been the final inspection and hopefully, the pad would open this weekend.  Not happening.  Not only are there still several minor problems that need to be fixed such as a door to the restrooms which takes more than five pounds of pressure to open and the concrete is too rough and needs to be smoothed out – today a slightly more serious problem happened.  A chlorine spill of sorts. Crossville Fire Department along with a Haz-Mat team called in when some kind of chemical reaction occurred while adding chlorine to the pumping system. There were no injuries to anyone but Fire and Rescue took extra precaution while the chemical was removed.

So when exactly will the Garrison Park Splash Pad open?  Anyone’s guess.  But as the headline reads, if there are many more delays the pad may be a great ice skating pad this winter.  Stay tuned.
