SERVICES FOR CROSSVILLE BUSINESSMAN ROY STONE ANNOUNCED

 10547704_776062522436280_7085525758226523194_nServices for Roy A. Stone, age 98, will be held at 2 PM Friday, July 18 at First United Methodist Church in Crossville. Family will receive friends from 2-6 PM Thursday, July 17 at the church. Survivors: Daughters- Margaret (Bob) Franks, Carolyn (Peter) Flick, Julia (Horace) Burgess, Sons- Mike (Connie), Steve (Lisa), Cosby (Rebecca). Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or The Bread of Life Mission. Bilbrey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stone left quite a legacy for Cumberland Countian’s past, present and future.  Roy  Stone began his career as a teacher in 1934 at the Cline School here in Cumberland County, eventually serving as principal for Crossville Elementary. Following military service in World War 2, Mr. Stone began working for the aviation trade publication Trade-A-Plane and married the founder’s daughter, Joanne Harrison Stone. He would help grow the family empire to what it is today as TAP Publishing. In addition to Tap Publishing, Mr. Stone was a charter board member for Crossville Rubber Company, Cumberland County Bank, was president of the Crossville Medical Group, charter board member of Upper Cumberland Savings and Loan and served as president of Plateau Properties.  Mr. Stone was also a great  humanitarian. Together with his late wife Joanne, they left future generations with the gift of education. The Stones provided land for Roane State Community College’s Cumberland County Education Center, Stone Elementary School and Stone Memorial High School, not to mention numerous gifts to the Cumberland County Playhouse, First United Methodist Church and local and national charities.  (Additional sources:   102.5 Wowcountry, 105.7 News, Crossville Chronicle)
