SEARCH RESUMES FOR MISSING HICKMAN COUNTY BOY SWEPT AWAY BY FLOOD WATERS YESTERDAY

3903515_G3904211_GThe search for a missing six-year-old boy who was swept away by flood waters in Hickman County resumed Friday morning.

Authorities said 6-year-old Tristen Demumbran went missing around 2:20 p.m. Thursday after his mother tried to drive a van through high water in Hickman County. The mother and four others were able to escape.

Rescue crews searched the Beaver Creek Dam area near Centerville for hours before ending the search at about 8:30 p.m. Crews said conditions were too dangerous to continue searching in the dark.

The mother said she had Tristen in her arms, but lost her grip.

“The family is just very, very distraught, which is very understandable. I would be if it was my child,” said Sheriff Randal Ward with the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office. “We’re a tight community, especially down here at Beaver Dam, and we’re just really praying that we can find him.”

Multiple agencies from in and around the county assisted in the search for the child.

More than 100 people were expected to volunteer in Friday’s search.

The flooding was the result of powerful thunderstorms that swept through the state.

The storms were blamed for the death of a 72-year-old man in Lawrence County, whose vehicle was swept downstream as he apparently tried to cross a flooded roadway.
