ROCKS DROPPED ONTO CARS , TN WOMAN WANTS FENCES ON OVERPASSES

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) –

Speed, distracted driving and alcohol are some of the biggest risk factors on the interstate.

Rocks and other debris being hurled at vehicles should not be one of them, but a Tennessee woman said it’s her biggest fear.

Lara Hazelwood said that’s how her twin brother was killed 25 years ago. She said it’s senseless, and it’s still happening.

Larry Hazelwood was driving on Interstate 24 in Smyrna when two teens pushed a 54-pound rock from the overpass, striking his car and killing him.

Similar stories are now popping up in the news.

Earlier this week, a Nashville man was arrested for throwing wood and metal from an 8th Avenue South overpass. No one was hurt, but several cars were damaged,

But in Michigan, the same act turned deadly.

Five teens were charged after police say they threw rocks onto the interstate, killing a 32-year-old man.

Lara Hazelwood said she’s had enough.

“Every time I drive under an overpass I look up,” she said.

She is reaching out to lawmakers, begging them to sponsor a bill to put up fencing at overpasses.

“Maybe if there is a fence up you can prevent something like this,” she said.
