The Fentress County Sheriff’s Department says a man is now facing charges after he was not honest about an alleged attack early Sunday morning on Highway 127 North.

Officers say 19-year-old Nathan Harigel initially claimed he was driving on Highway 127 North in between Clarkrange and Grimsley around 5:30 a.m. when a vehicle came up behind him following too close. Harigel said he pulled over to call 911 when two men got out the vehicle that followed him, busted the driver’s and passenger side windows out, pulled Harigel out of his vehicle and assaulted him.

Harigel was asked to come to the Fentress County Sheriff’s Department yesterday so investigators could talk to him more about the alleged incident. That is when Harigel reportedly told officers he made the story up. He allegedly said he was the one that busted out the vehicle windows and assaulted himself to make it look like he was attacked.

Harigel was charged and processed in the jail early yesterday afternoon with filing a false report and misuse of the 911 system.
