PROTESTERS SHUT DOWN I-24 IN NASHVILLE TUESDAY NIGHT

Dozens of people gathered at the Criminal Justice Center Tuesday evening for a vigil following Monday’s announcement in Ferguson, MO, that Ofc. Darren Wilson would not be charged in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

The vigil turned into a march as people headed to Broadway. Police blocked streets as the protesters lay down in the roadway for a moment of silence.

The protesters then made their way to LP Field and onto I-24 near Woodland Street.

The protesters again lay in the roadway for another moment of silence. Police formed a barricade around the protesters and shut down I-24, backing up traffic in both directions.

The protesters then moved off the interstate and headed toward the James Casey Homes.

Police kept I-24 blocked as the protesters made their way off the roadway. The interstate was reopened after 9 p.m.

However, protesters returned to I-24 near Shelby Avenue just before 10 p.m., causing police to once again shut down the roadway in both directions. Protesters then stood up and chanted, “We are Mike Brown.”

Traffic reopened just before 10:30 p.m.

Protesters plan to slowly make their way back to the Criminal Justice Center.

No arrests have been made in Tuesday night’s protests.
