PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES PICK UP QUALIFYING PAPERS FOR COUNTY OFFICES TODAY

Today is the first day prospective candidates could pick up qualifying papers for County offices in the upcoming 2018 Primary Elections.  As of noon today, for the office of County Mayor, four candidates had picked up qualifying papers from the Election Commission Office.  All four are Republicans – no Democratic candidate was listed – however, potential candidates have until February 15th to pick up papers, get the 25 signatures needed and turn them back in to the Election Commission.  The four listed for County Mayor are: Timothy Claflin, Allen Foster, Robert (Doug) Scarlett and Ligue Wisdom.  Office of Cumberland County Sheriff:  Incumbent Casey Cox.  County Clerk: Julius Bryson.  Road Superintendent: Scot Blaylock, Kevin Music.  Trustee: Kim Wyatt.  Register of Deeds: Judy Swallows (D).  Circuit Court Clerk: Jessica Burgess, Nicholas Neal.

Again, potential candidates have until February 15th to file qualifying papers to run in the County Primary. County Primary Election day is May 1st, 2018 – Early voting begins April 11, 2018
