Volunteer Energy Cooperative has announced a planned power outage for about 9000 customers in Cumberland County. Power will be out beginning at 11:59 PM Friday night until around 2 AM Saturday morning. Communities affected by the outage include Crab Orchard, Grassy Cove, Lake Tansi, Midway, and customers living along Highways 101 and 127 South. VEC crews will be installing a remote 69 kV switch on the transmission line that serves the Crab Orchard and Lantana substations. The switch will speed up power restorations. VEC apologizes for any inconveniences the outage may cause.
