OAK RIDGE: 85-YEAR-OLD MAN ON BICYCLE STRUCK BY SUV DIES FROM INJURIES

One person is dead after an SUV struck a bicyclist on Highway 58 at Blair road, Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurring around 1:50 p.m.

The Oak Ridge police department responded to the call, where an 85-year-old man, died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the SUV was a 74-year-old Kingston woman, who was uninjured.

Nearby Department of Energy employees rendered immediate medical attention to aid the 85-year-old bicyclist until Anderson County Emergency Medical Service arrived.

The Clinton Police Department responded to the scene to assist with at-scene crash reconstruction. The Roane County Sheriff’s Department and the Oak Ridge Public Works Department responded to the scene to assist with traffic control. Roane County District Attorney General Russell Johnson also responded to the scene to assist with the crash investigation.

The crash is still under investigation and the decision to file charges has not been made. At the request of the family, the name of the bicyclist is not being released at this time.
