Nashville authorities executed a search warrant at the Lambdin Road home of  Caleb J. Cannon, the father of Nichole Burgess’ 10-year-old son.

Burgess, 36, was last heard from on May 23 in a text message sent to her best friend. Police say Cannon was referenced in that message.

Officials say Cannon, who had visitation privileges with the child every other weekend, picked him up from school later that afternoon, then went to Burgess’ home in Hermitage. Burgess was not there.

Cannon then took the child to Anderson County later in the evening. The child is now in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services while the investigation continues.

Detectives have traveled to Anderson County several times over the past week as part of the investigation. A search warrant was served on Cannon Tuesday for a DNA sample.

Detectives say they believe that based on the investigation thus far, Burgess is likely dead and Cannon is considered a person of interest.
