A Morgan County mother and her boyfriend have been charged with first degree murder in the case of a 17-month-old boy who died in June.

A grand jury returned the indictment Monday against Amanda Beaty and Roger Dale Prince II based on “Haley’s Law,” which raises most child abuse charges to felonies with punishment of life in prison.

Levi Beaty died June 1. Beaty and Prince said the child choked on a cookie, but an autopsy report showed multiple blunt force injuries, both new and healing.

Police said at the time Prince wasn’t allowed to be around the child due to previous abuse claims.

Beaty and Prince are being held on $200,000 bond each.
