LONGTIME LOCAL ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON TY GARLAND PASSES AWAY

Many in Crossville are mourning the loss of a very popular doctor.  Doctor Ty Garland, a local orthopedic surgeon, passed away Friday.  Ty was admired by all who knew him but none more than his patients.  Dr. Garland was extremely respected by his many patients as being a kindhearted, loving and caring physician.

 

Ty Garland, MD, hails from the mountains of North Carolina and upstate South Carolina. He graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in microbiology with an emphasis in biochemistry. He worked as a biochemist, bioengineer, microbiologist and organic chemist performing research in cardiovascular pharmacology with Professor Alphonse Ingenito at East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree with High Honors from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. He was named a Charter Member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society for academic achievements at the Brody School of Medicine. Dr. Garland completed his internship in General Surgery at East Carolina University and his orthopedic surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He remained in Charlotte for an additional twelve years in private practice involved with teaching orthopaedic residents. Dr. Garland was an attending orthopaedic physician on the trauma team at Carolinas Medical Center, the busiest trauma center in both of the Carolinas. While in Charlotte, he was involved with professional sports teams as well as acting as a consultant for several professional NASCAR racing teams and the Sports Car Club of America. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Southern Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Garland relocated to Crossville, Tennessee in 2003 and has his primary office in Crossville. He performs all of his surgical procedures at Highlands Medical Center.

Dr. Garland and his wife, Noelle, make their home in Crossville.  They have three children and are members of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Crossville. His areas of expertise include state-of-the-art arthroscopic treatment of afflictions of the shoulder and knee, hand surgery, foot and ankle surgery and the treatment of elective trauma; both simple and complex. He also enjoys treating general orthopedic problems and has a special interest in sports medicine.
