KY: Two people have been charged with criminal abuse after police say they force fed hot sauce and vinegar to a 4-year-old girl on several occasions.

WDRB-TV in Louisville reported that the child’s mother, 23-year-old Brittany Herbst, and her boyfriend, 29-year-old James Ford, used the condiments as discipline.

Mt. Washington police say they found out about the incidents on May 1 when the child had to be taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital for a head abrasion. While there, authorities say both Herbst and Ford were interviewed, and Ford spoke of force feeding the child, with the assistance of Herbst.

Ford is set for arraignment next week.

Herbst was arraigned in Bullitt District Court on Thursday morning.

Court records did not list an attorney for Herbst or Ford.
