K9 OFFICER CAIN’S HANDLER, LT. RIDEN, FIRED FROM CROSSVILLE PD – TBI INVESTIGATING

20 year veteran Police Officer Lt. Bart Riden has been dismissed from the Crossville Police force for failure to follow policies and procedures along with conduct unbecoming an officer.  Lt. Riden was the handler of K9 Officer Cain who was killed in the line of duty in August of 2017.  The suspect in that incident, Dustin Dixon was charged with killing the police dog.  The City had just recently bought a new police dog for Lt. Riden.

The TBI has been called in by the DA to investigate Lt. Ride which implies there may have been some kind of criminal activity involved

Crossville Police Chief Dave Beaty confirmed to  CNF that the TBI is conducting an investigation of Lt. Riden but emphasized the investigation is not connected to his dismissal for failure to follow policies and procedures.  The Chief said the investigation could possibly be connected with ‘conduct unbecoming of an officer’ but could not elaborate any further pending the outcome of the TBI investigation.   Lt. Riden was dismissed by Crossville City Manager Greg Wood.  Chief Beaty told CNF Lt. Riden was a good officer and regretted the situation occurred prompting his dismissal.
