INMATE FOUND HANGED IN CUMBERLAND CO JAIL
CNF was notified last week of an inmate who was found hanged in the Cumberland County Jail. We contacted Sheriff Casey Cox who told us that it was an apparent attempted suicide but that inmate was alive. That inmate died later at CMC. According to The Crossville Chronicle, the inmate was 44-year-old Mark Christopher Brown of Eastland Road. Brown was in jail after being indicted for giving his stepdaughter, 22-year-old Madison Christine Brown a fatal dose of meth that ultimately killed her. The reports continues that Mark Brown was found hanging by a noose made from a sheet from the inmate’s bed. He was rushed to CMC where he was prounounced dead.

Yes he gave his DAUGHTER a lethal dose of meth that killed her, and she DIED while being held in The Cumberland County Jail because they arrested her instead of taking her to the hospital. She was my niece and I am infuriated about this so called investigation.

Jason I am so very sorry your family were treated as if they were violent criminals. Both should have been offered help for their illness not thrown in a cage and treated as if they weren’t worthy on compassion and care.Jail is not the answer.

I’m sorry this was to reply to Sharron Forth not Jason. My error. I also want to add that I pray you find justice for your Niece and for Mark if you feel the jail failed in protecting him in a time he was a danger to himself. If they knew he had suicidal ideations it is their responsibility to make sure he doesn’t have access to anything to hurt himself ( like a sheet or cords, belts)He should have been on every 15 min watch if not continuously.

He lived a hard life and came to a tragic end. I can’t always say that we got along but underneath everything he’d accumulated there was a good person. Sorry that he went out like that. RIP MArk.

I was with Mark for almost 20 yrs and he was my bf and soul mate. He was her father not step father actually. She did die there, and they should have helped her and taken her to hospital , he would never intentionally hurt her ever. I don’t know what to do with this entire tragedy, I miss her beautiful presence and ache for my family back. They both had so many issues that hurt them, I loved them so much and don’t feel right without them and haven’t for so long. I pray to see them both in heaven when I am called home. Praying for her family and his children that I can imagine will be left without understanding what really had happened and l pray they can one day see he loved them the best way he knew how to.

This jail so messed up, teer management with 13 ppl in a pod. That’s forcing ppl who have enough stress already on them. to stress being alone in their head every other night. Mark was a good dude and a good father, this is on C.C.S.D and the dumb ass way they are running and ruining lives.

Cumberland county jail had had so many people die there and for what reason lazy people sitting on their ass not doing their job stay helping people instead of putting them in a cage and not caring. I understand people need to be punished if they don’t wrong but most need therapy and rehab and know that someone cares that jail is pathetic and my opinion is sure the hell out of them and they may stay paying attention when people start getting in trouble for not doing their job

Wow! Stop blaming the jail for people who make bad decisions and can’t live as adults. The jail cannot determine to place people in rehab, that is up to the court. Rehab is open 24/7 while people are not in jail. They made the decision to use and to commit suicide. It is a very tragic situation that happens all over the country, but place the blame where it belongs and address those problems.
